The extremely favourable situation of the Monte Rufeno Reserve (a wide natural heritage, a low impact of existing human activities and a “historical” lack of hunting pressure) gave spur to many activities and research programs carried out by different universities (Rome, Viterbo, Siena, Perugia, Florence), and also by public bodies like Ministries and the CNR (National Research Council).
Sectors which more developed these studies are the faunistic, botanic and geologic ones. So far, about twenty last-year undergraduates have developed their thesis in the Reserve.
The protected area guarantees assistance and advice of highly qualified personnel and is also involved in projects for monitoring, conservation, management and restoration of natural environments.
