FAQFOR THE LOVERS OF NATURE AND HIKING D - How far from the Museum are the trails of Monte Rufeno Reserve? R – The Museum is inside the protected area and the Nature Trail of Flowers is the narrow ring-shaped part of a wider excursion trail of the Reserve called “La Scialimata”. Other trails in the Reserve are on the opposite side of the river and to get there it is necessary to pass through the town of Acquapendente. D - Are there other places in the neighbourhood where to have a walk? R - At the foothill of Torre Alfina (the village we pass on arrival), the “Sasseto” wood opens. It is a wonderful natural wood of long-stemmed plants populated by a large variety of trees, from ilex to beech, from holly to chestnut. The wood is not included in the Monte Rufeno Reserve (yet, it’s a Natural Monument), it extends for some 50 hectares and can be crossed over thanks to a net of small trails and passages. It is advisable to ask for information at the Museum on how to get there. - D - Which is the best period to admire the blooming? - R - It depends on the season and on what you expect to find. Spring (April and May) is obviously the moment with the greatest richness in flowers, but there are interesting blooms at the end of winter (March), in the middle of summer and in autumn, too. Shortly, this website will open a periodic column to report, in “real time”, which flowers can be observed on the trails around the Museum.
